Yuko Taniguchi was born in Yokohama, Japan. At the age of fifteen, she came to the United States and attended high school in Maryland. She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of St. Benedict/ St. John’s University and her M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota. Her first volume of poetry, Foreign Wife Elegy, was published by Coffee House Press in 2004.
Her first novel, The Ocean in the Closet, was published by Coffee House Press in spring 2007. Some of her awards include the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Writers, Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant, Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Assistance Fellowship.
